What’s on at The Guild: December 2017

There’s so much that goes on at Liverpool Guild here’s a short look at some of the events they and their societies have got lined up this month:

The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui

The gangster Arturo Ui and his gang are determined to take over Chicago and Cicero, by manipulating the local government and influencing the vegetable industry and its leaders, The Cauliflower Trust.

When: December 1st and 2nd at 7pm

Where: Harold Wilson Room on the second floor of the Guild

Society: Liverpool University Drama Society (LUDS)

Bonnie and Clyde

Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow went from two small town nobodies to America’s most renowned folk heroes and the Texas law enforcement’s worst nightmares right in the worst of the Great Depression.

When: December 1st and 2nd at 7pm

Where: Stanley Theatre

Society: Liverpool University Student Theatre (LUST)

Whitechapel Christmas Gift Bags

This year the Guild are doing a Christmas Giftbag appeal specifically for the Whitechapel Centre (one of their 4 key charities this year). This year there will be a packing session and Christmas cards will be written to put into each bag.

The Guild have requested the following items for each bag:

– Chocolate Gift Boxes

– Toiletry Gift Sets

– Notebooks and Pens

– Playing Cards

– Socks

– Gift Bag

– Christmas Card

Society: Help the Homeless and FemSoc

Big Quiz: Christmas Edition

For anyone who’s favourite time of year is Christmas or anyone looking to get into the festive spirit this is your chance to win a host of festive prizes. Christmas jumpers, songs and cracker jokes are required!

When: December 7th. Doors open at 7pm and the Quiz starts at 7:30pm.

Where: Mountford Hall

 

9 to 5: The Musical

In a far from quiet 70s office, three women plot to get rid their boss. While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.

When: December 7th – 9th at 7pm

Where: Stanley Theatre

Society: Liverpool University Student Theatre (LUST)

 

Guild Christmas Day

Make sure you get to the Guild to see it dressed in tinsel and sparkling fairy lights. Food will be served from 12-3pm and the bar is open from 12pm with Snowballs, Mulled Wine and Bucks Fizz at only £3. So, come along in your best Christmas jumper and spend a day singing along to Christmas songs!

Hogmoney Fundraising Workshop

Hogmoney is Kidscan’s annual bucket collection, taking place in Scotland over New Year. Every year students from all over the country join a team to collect vital funds for Kidscan’s fundamental research into new and improved treatments for children with cancer. Hogmoney involves 3 days of bucket collections in Edinburgh and Glasgow starting on December 28th. Kidscan provides tickets for those involved to see in the New Year at Edinburgh’s annual Hogmanay Street Festival in the city centre. They also provide training for those who have never collected before, so don’t let that stop you!

The Guild are providing individuals who have signed up for the trip only with a Fundraising Workshop to give you any extra support you need and fill you in with any more information.

When: December 12th at 5pm

Winter Extravaganza Concert

The evening will include a range of music from Christmas songs to Disney medleys from the Liverpool University Music Society groups, choirs and orchestras including: Stage and Screen Orchestra, Concert Band, Chamber Choir, University Singers, Show Choir, Percussion Ensemble and University of Liverpool Acapella Choir.

When: December 12th at 7pm

Where: Mountford Hall

Society: Liverpool University Music Society (LUMS)
