What’s in your earphones? – Jess’ February playlist

After what feels like a lifetime (and a half), we have left dreary January and the horrid exam season behind us! Knowing that February is going to bring fun filled times and its fair share of Raz Mondays, here are the tracks I’m going to have stuck on repeat.

1901 – Phoenix

This is probably one of the most upbeat and jazziest songs I’ve ever heard- it may be 8 years old but this song still finds its way onto my playlists every so often. It’s guaranteed to make any 699 bus journey to and fro uni much more bearable!

Something Good Can Work – Two Door Cinema Club

Something Good Can Work will always be one of my fave songs in the world and seeing as I finally get to see TDCC this month, I couldn’t not include them in my February playlist. (Seriously, this band along with The Wombats were my childhood!)

I Dare You – The xx

Ever since its release last month I have been OBSESSED with The xx’s latest album ‘I See You’. I’ve loved watching this band grow and evolve since their debut was released and there isn’t a single song off this new album that I haven’t fallen completely in love with. I Dare You is nothing short of perfection and just more proof that anything The xx make is beautiful.

Chemicals – Various Cruelties

Various Cruelties are a band that I discovered through the joy of Spotify’s related artists a few years back. However, its saddens me that they’ve joined the list of bands that have disappeared off the face of the earth without any word of a warning- I’m still praying that one day this band resurfaces! Their album is full of absolute bangers but Chemicals is definitely my favourite and is forever getting stuck in my head for hours on end.

South – Hippo Campus

I was introduced to this band on a Wednesday (Shout out to my flatmate Tom for that!), bought tickets to their Manchester show on the Thursday and was at the gig on the Saturday- so it’s safe to say Hippo Campus have made quite the lasting impression on me. South is such a feel good song and seeing it performed live whilst dancing with my friends was a perfect end to my January. Hippo Campus release their album Landmark later this month so make sure you look out for it!

Talk Too Much – COIN

This song is such a bop! Everything by indie pop band COIN is great, this song especially.

Swings & Waterslides – Viola Beach

I have such a deep love for Viola Beach and all the music they made, as they were such a passionate band! Swings & Waterslides is up there as one of my favourites due to its catchiness and laid back approach as a song. I can’t help but sing along whenever I hear it!

Archie, Marry Me – Alvvays

I rediscovered Alvvays’ album again the other week and fell right back in love with this beauty of a song because who doesn’t love a song with some major dreamy vibes?

Common Things – Little Comets

*ALERT* New Little Comets music!!! It’s been a very long 2 years of waiting but one of my all-time favourite bands have finally released new music so I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t had Common Things on repeat ever since it came out. The band’s fourth album, Worhead is due for release later this year and to say I’m excited is an understatement.

Easier Said – Sunflower Bean

It is purely impossible for me to put into words my love for this song so its best if you give it a listen.

Silk – Wolf Alice

Silk is finally getting the recognition it deserves thanks to being featured on the soundtrack for Trainspotting 2! The way this track builds is TOO BEAUTIFUL and I’m not just saying that because I love Ellie Rowsell.

Gondwanaland – Stornoway

A lot of the bands I’ve gotten into recently has been thanks to the people I’ve met at Uni and Stornoway is no exception to this. Massive shout out to Max for introducing me to this absolute dream of song, I don’t know how I’ve made it so far through life without hearing it because for me it epitomises everything a good song is. Plus I’m a sucker for a string section.
