Monday 7th November: A Lovely Word @ The Everyman
Do you have a love for poetry and spoken word? Or simply fancy spending an evening doing something a little different? If so, then why not head down to ‘A Lovely Word’ – a monthly open mic night for poets and spoken word artists in the cosy setting of the Everyman’s basement bistro. ‘A Lovely Word’ attracts poets of all ages and welcomes all first-timers, with a guest headliner bringing the night to a close. And what’s more, the night is entirely free! What better way to get inspired and wish away those Monday blues.
2. Christmas Lights Switch on – Liverpool One
As carving pumpkins, enduring Smiffy’s endless queue and braving the cold to admire an explosion of light quickly become things of the past – the festive spirit is set to roll into Liverpool One this Thursday. Yes, it is that time of year once again where the switch is flicked on Liverpool’s Lights and the giant heart-clad tree is a set to become a statement feature. The two-hour event starting at 4pm also involves magical performances, children’s rides and not only a visit from Santa; but any Disney fans out there will be pleased to know Shrek will also be making an appearance.
3. 90’s Rave @ Constellations – November 10th
Are you ready to be taken back to the 90’s? Well, Constellations may just be the place for you this Thursday. What is being called ‘a nostalgic rave’ will be taking place and is not to be missed! Music is set to include the best 90’s Club Classics, Acid House & Techno, continuing well into the early hours. The dress code is as expected – anything and everything 90’s! The group with the best 90’s outfit will win free tickets to the next 90’s rave so be sure to get rummaging through your wardrobe and digging out your best bomber jacket or that oh-so-short mini skirt.
4. Our Film Pick of the Week: ‘Arrival’ – November 11th
If you are heading out to the cinema this week our recommendation would be ‘Arrival’ – Director Denis Villenueve’s thrilling new film, about humanity’s attempt to communicate with aliens. When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) are brought together to investigate. ‘Arrival’ has been named by some critics as ‘the Year’s Best, Most Profound Sci-Fi Film’. While The Independent rated the film 4/5 stars and claimed it was a ‘Sci-Fi thriller that doesn’t rely on action movie cliches’.
5. Fiesta Bombarda Autumn Carnival @ The Florrie – November 11th
Fiesta Bombarda is a vibrant, festival-esque event that travel around the UK’s most inspiring spaces with a music, performance and dance-fuelled carnival. After the previous sell-out carnival at Constellations, Fiesta Bombarda returns for an autumnal celebration at the incredible venue of Victorian Hall. The Autumn Carnival is all about colour with fiesta face-paints taking place, a photo booth and a special guest performance ensemble from an array of DJ’s playing the best Reggae, Dub and Afrobeats, get ready for a night of non-stop dancing and entertainment.

6. Gin Party @ Sefton Park’s Palm House – Friday 11th & Saturday 12th November
Calling all Gin lovers! This Friday and Saturday Liverpool Distillery returns to the beautiful Sefton Park Palm House for the fourth Gin Party. Expect gin, gin and even more gin! Upon arrival you will be greeted with a Liverpool Gin and Fever Tree Tonic in your very own souvenir balloon glass. There will then be 20+ different boutique gins from any of the bars, which you will be able to obtain using tokens purchasable at the event. Alongside the gin there will be live music, lots of food and some gin related activities – this is definitely the place to be this weekend.
