Top Picks for LightNight 2018

So it’s that time of year again, LightNight is returning to Liverpool this Friday!

LightNight is a festival which sees iconic venues across the city stay open late, for one night only, to showcase the awe-inspiring culture and creativity which Liverpool has to offer. Whether you’re a lover of literature or an art aficionado, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy this LightNight

The Rubbish Shakespeare Company – Central Library (performances at 18:00, 19:15, 19:45)
There will be a whole host of activities taking place in Central Library on LightNight, but one in particular caught my eye: ‘Enemies. Lovers. Warring families. Sausage rolls? See how Shakespeare transforms the dynamic between two lovers over the course of one scene as The Rubbish Shakespeare Company present pop-up scenes from Romeo & Juliet in their unique, critically acclaimed style.’ This definitely counts as exam revision for English students, right?

  1. Night at the Museum – World Museum (17:00- 22:00, with last entry at 21:00)
Running around the World Museum at night, surrounded by Egyptian mummies and dinosaur bones, will definitely make you feel like you’re in the film. This one is for the little kids and the big kids alike!
  2. Pitch yourself against the professionals – LJMU John Lennon building (17:00- 21:00)
Think you have what it takes to be a professional football player? Now is your chance to prove it! Take part in small-sided football games and see, through the use of heart rate monitors and GPS vests, how your performance compares to Premier League players.
  3. Food Hub – Bombed Out Church (17:00- 22:00)
If you find yourself feeling a bit ravenous whilst you’re running around the city, pop along to the food hub in the gardens of the Bombed Out Church. Eat, drink and make the most of the delights Liverpool has on offer!
  4. The Spectrum Retreat – FACT (17:00- 23:00)
Looking for an activity which will get your brain in gear? Look no further! The Spectrum Retreat is described as ‘a challenging, first-person puzzle game set in the near future. You awake at The Penrose hotel, a peaceful yet unsettling refuge from the outside world. All is not as it seems, and your desire to unearth the truth is obstructed by an array of colour coded puzzles, mind-bending physics challenges and the growing fear of exposing your true intentions.’
  5. Ever Changing – Zapp Graffiti (18:00-23:00)
This is not your typical art exhibition- watch a team of graffiti artists transform a street with incredible artwork which unfolds before your very eyes! Zapp Graffiti is an ever-changing space where people from all over come to express themselves through the art of graffiti.
  6. DANCE4MATION – Constellations (20:30- 2:30)
Open Culture and Cartier 4 Everyone present four female artists at one unifying after party which promises to end LightNight with a bang! The event is ticketed, with tickets costing £3 if you buy in advance or £4 if you buy on the night.

There is a jam-packed timetable of events available at on the LightNight website where you can even make your own itinerary, so make sure to check it out!
