Six Must-Visit Liverpool Restaurants

Hanover St Social:   20 Hanover Street, Liverpool

High-quality bistro cuisine without the pomp. Together with its open kitchen and large bar, the brasserie creates a lively atmosphere without being overwhelming. Its classic-style menu offers a wide range of British and French inspired dishes, with a friendly but professional service. The Social offers an excellent express lunch menu, with 2 courses for £11.95; my personal favourite is the pan-fried seabass, which every time has been consistently excellent. The perfect place to bring the parents when they come to visit, but it’s often busy so it’s best to pre-book if you want any chance of getting a table for dinner on the weekend!

Frederiks:  32 Hope Street, Liverpool

Hope Street’s neighbourhood kitchen and American-style bar with private function room. An atmospheric venue perfect for drinks or a pre-theatre meal, an ideal two-minute walk from some of Liverpool’s most iconic theatres. They offer a generous evening and pre-theatre special menu with 2 courses for £13.50. On my most recent visit, a mad dash for dinner before a trip to the everyman; we were served within 10 minutes with an impressive course of salmon and sweet potato fishcakes with a bright salad and tangy chilli mayo, totalling around £20 for two. Overall impressive service and tasty food with £5 cocktails every Friday at 5pm!

Salt House Tapas: 1, Hanover Street, Liverpool

Airy, contemporary surroundings filled with light from the many widows which surround this round, red-brick building. Salt House provides a bright, convivial atmosphere without feeling communal. Though, if community dining is your thing, the restaurant offers its quirky ‘Table 14’ experience, which encourages solo diners to eat together on one large table and share dishes as well as conversation. Main tapas dishes start from around £4.50. Tapas works equally well for a lunchtime treat, with the House’s lunch menu offering a tasty deal of 3 tapas plates and crusty bread for just £12.95.

The Quarter:   7, Falkner street, Liverpool

Homemade Italian fare, no fuss. Tucked away just off Hope Street, the outdoor terrace provides a relaxed sun-trap in warmer weather, perfect for relaxed drinks or a simple evening meal with friends. However, the Quarter also offers an impressive deli selection of tasty takeaway lunches for those sick of the same old lunch-break sandwiches and bland meal-deals. Their ‘Savouries’ option is perfect for groups, offering a foodie platter for 6 people for just £18. Diners can choose three options from the freshly made selection each day, from quirky salads, to homemade quiches, tarts and tortillas.
