Quote of the Week – “Every day may not be good but there is something good in every day.”
A couple of days ago, I was having a pretty good day … until it became one of those days where something happens and everything just seems to go downhill from there.
What happened was quite stressful and did cause a lot of major setbacks – and yes, I acknowledge it was very trivial. It started getting to the point where I just wanted to give up and go to bed early (like 4 PM early – that’s how bad my day went). To cut a long story short, my laptop fell off my bed and stopped working meaning I had to stop working – which I do not have the time to do amidst the craziness of university life. All my planned work that day was laptop-based (specifically my laptop), and the next available booked appointment at Apple was the following Tuesday (no way was I waiting that long); otherwise I’d have to go laptop-less for a night and hope to get a drop-in the next day.
But amidst all the stress, frustration and exhaustion of that day I found myself thinking “some people would do anything to have one of your bad days.” And poof, just like that, everything just clicked into perspective. I am so lucky to have all the things I do, to be comfortable, to be able to afford to fix the problem, while others aren’t. Yeah, I was in an annoying situation but I could definitely be in a worse place. And I realise that whatever may happen how you deal with an issue is what defines the experience. So, rather than counting my curses and throwing a fit, I got on with my day and found alternatives to completing other tasks that needed doing, counting my blessings all the while.
Next time something ‘ruins’ your day, try thinking that thought and see how it goes. You’ll find that mantra really changes the course of the rest of your day, like it did mine. It’s extraordinary how a line of words can really impact your life.
