Wondering where to start with all the Welcome Week events? Here’s our Alternative Welcome Week Guide of ideas if you fancy something different:


Sunday 16th September:

Evening: Welcome Party:

You’re probably all moved in to your new room so why not head over to the Guild’s Welcome Party? If you’re not one for going out, you can always head down early to The Sphinx for a barbeque and drinks at 6pm or if you’d rather just go for the glitter and music head over to the Mountford Hall from 9pm.

How much: Free

Time: Doors 9pm, BBQ in the Sphinx from 6pm


Monday 17th September:

Day: Liverpool Cathedral Trip

Why not start your week by exploring the city and culture you’ll come to know and love by heading off on a trip to Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral for a full behind the scenes tour? You’ll be able to see all the secrets inside one part of Liverpool’s iconic skyline.

How much: £3

Time: Meet in the Guild Reception at 12:30


Evening: Film Night at FACT

Carry on exploring the local scene with a visit to Liverpool’s independent cinema. Sit back, relax and enjoy one of the latest films such as ‘The King’ or become a Student Member of E4’s Slacker’s Club and go to see ‘The House With A Clock In Its Walls’ for free! Or just have a wander round the current exhibitions in line with Liverpool Biennial 2018.

How much: £7.50 or E4’s Slackers Club film for free

Tuesday 18th September:

Day: Campus tour

Stay a little closer to home and get to know the campus and places around you. Head over to the Guild Reception at 1pm, 2pm or 3pm to go on a Campus tour around Abercromby Square, the VGM, Quadrangle and Guild.

How much: Free

Time: Meet at the Guild Reception at 1pm, 2pm or 3pm


Evening: Comedy Night

You can either head over to the Guild’s Comedy Club with Lee Nelson and see his nationwide tour in our very own Mountford Hall or if you don’t fancy this you can head over to the Nuffield Lecture Theatre at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (at the top of campus) to see 2017 Britain’s Got Talent Finalist, Daliso Chaponda.

How much: £8/£10 OTD for Lee Nelson or £11 for Daliso Chaponda

Time: 7pm for both

Wednesday 19th September:

Day: Food Festival and/or go Behind the Scenes of BBC Radio 1

If you’re running out of food or want to see the range of local independent bars and restaurants in Liverpool, look no further than your very own Guild of Students. Then if you’re needing a break during the day to rest your weary legs, head in to the Stanley Theatre to hear a behind the scenes talk by presenters, producers and crew at BBC Radio 1.

How much: You’ll only need cash for the food with the talk being free!

Time: Both start at 12pm with the Food Festival staying on until 7pm


Evening: Flat night in

You’re allowed to have a night off, so why not make tonight that night? You don’t have to be busy all the time so order in a takeaway or get the flat together for cooking session with all your yummies from the day!

How much: As much as you want!

Time: Whenever you like!


Thursday 20th September:

Day: Welcome Fair

Head on into the Guild or the Sports’ Centre Hall to find all the societies and freebies you could wish for! If you can’t find who you’re looking for don’t panic they’ll probably be there on Friday instead. Wander round and take stock of all the old and new opportunities available to you. Find like-minded people at societies’ taster sessions over the coming weeks…

How much: Free

Time: 10am


Evening: Big Quiz

You’ve scrubbed up on all your movie knowledge at last night’s film night and you now know all the local foods so get a group together and test your knowledge at the Big Quiz in Mountford Hall. If you don’t have a group, you can always just turn up and join a group when you get here!

How much: £2 OTD

Time: 7pm



Friday 21st September:

Day: City Walking Tour

Get to know the city that will become a home away from home and meet at the Guild Reception to go on a guided tour of this beautiful city! You’ll pass all the landmarks and Beatles hotspots and come away with a wealth of knowledge. If you’re legs aren’t too tired, you can always go back in to today’s Welcome Fair to find a wealth of more societies and freebies to last a lifetime!

How much: Free

Time: Meet at the Guild Reception at 1:55pm


Evening: Live Music

Whether you’re looking for your next acoustic playlist or just want a space to chill, the Guild’s Live Music night in the Courtyard will cater for all your relaxed, music needs and even adds the fries, pizza and drinks.

How much: Free

Time: 6pm in the Courtyard in the Guild



Saturday 22nd September:

Day: Liverpool Docks 

You’ve explored the city, but want to know a little bit more so head on down to Liverpool’s iconic Docks. Get to know more about the city’s history at the Museum of Liverpool or walk over to The Beatles Story if that’s more your style. There’s so much to explore round here, you can simply relax in a restaurant on the Albert Docks or sail across the River Mersey on the famous Mersey Ferry.

How much: As much as you want!

Time: Whenever you want!



Finish your week in style by going to see ‘The Greatest Showman’ in Abercromby Square’s outdoor cinema for the night. Bring all the popcorn, snacks and warm blankets you can find and settle in for an evening under the starts to cap off your first week at Liverpool.

How much: £6

Time: 7pm


Sunday: Rest up!

You’ve had a busy week settling in and finding your feet so take today to rest up ready for the start of your first term on Monday!
