Chloe Lewis

Ellipsis’ Ultimate Valentine’s Playlist

Last week, our music ed Cecily took to Facebook to find out what the music team thought were the best Valentine’s-related songs. Here’s what we came up with!

Whistle For The Choir- The Fratellis

Deputy music ed Chloe is absolutely not under any circumstances interested in ever getting married, but just in case, she’s picked out her wedding song, and it just so happens to be this one.

Last Request- Paolo Nutini

General consensus is that Paolo Nutini is a bit of a fittie, and Last Request is a tune.

Toothpaste Kisses- The Maccabees

Most people associate this early Maccabees track with iconic movie Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, and if that film isn’t enough to get you in the Valentine’s mood I don’t know what will.

She’s Always A Woman- Billy Joel

Shoutout to Laura’s ‘Can’t Cope-stake’ playlist on Spotify for this gem.

The Girl- City and Colour

Real Love Baby- Father John Misty

A Million Love Songs- Take That

Laura requested a whopping 13 Take That tunes when we asked for our music team’s faves, but we’ve chosen this one, for fairly obvious reasons.

Small Bones- Courteeners

Kiss Me- Sixpence None The Richer

Suuuuuuuch a throwback.

Sea Of Love- Cat Power

All That I Want Is You- The Magic Gang

We really love The Magic Gang here at Ellipsis- it’s just a shame that hardly any of their songs are happy enough to fit in on this playlist, and we had to really think about it before we settled on All That I Want Is You.

Heroes- David Bowie

Fuck You- Lily Allen

Ah. So romantic.

Junk of the Heart (Happy)- The Kooks

All I Want- Kodaline

Try and go to a Kodaline gig without crying at this, I dare you.

Harvest Moon- Neil Young

Electric Love- BORNS

Electric Love is suuuuper upbeat and has a nice indiepop vibe- and it’s not sad either, which is a big deal considering our struggles to find happy love songs!

I Need My Girl- The National

Cherry Wine- Hozier

It is so beautiful he is so beautiful (the live version especially).

You Make My Dreams- Hall & Oates

500 Days of Summer, anyone?

I Wanna Be Yours- Arctic Monkeys

5 Years Time- Noah and the Whale

Home- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Lovely Day- Bill Withers

Surprise Yourself- Jack Garratt

True- Spandeau Ballet

Friday I’m In Love- The Cure

Thursday I don’t care about you it’s fried egg I’m in love.

Robbers- The 1975

Ellipsis would like to say that they aren’t mostly made up of massive The 1975 fangirls, but they’d all be liars.

Angels- The xx

What’s that? Oh, just the sound of my HEART BREAKING.

Lovesick- Peace

Short but sweet, this one. Oh, but it’s a goodun.

forever- Lewis Watson

There was a lot of debate amongst us about which Lewis Watson song would be best for this playlist, and the conclusion we came to was ALL OF THEM… but they won’t all fit, so here’s forever.

Sexbomb- Tom Jones

Not naming names, but a couple of our team have actually seen Tom Jones live in concert- they’re not ashamed about it, but in order to maintain the idea that we’re even somewhat cool, it’s probably best that we keep our mouths shut.

You Can Leave Your Hat On- Joe Cocker

She’s Got You High- Mumm-Ra

Shout Out To My Ex- Little Mix

Oh hot damn this is my jam.

Let It Die- Fiest

Get ready to feel the feels.
